Netbook Portable Studio in a Bag!

I Inserted Larger Photos, Click on the photo to Enlarge.

The “Micro” Studio, I say micro due to the fact that the Computer being used is a NETBOOK, and not the typical Notebook that is used for remote studio work.

The Equipment in the bag is as follows.

1. MSI L1300 Netbook with 2Gb Memory and 160gig HD.
2. Steinburg WaveLab 6 DAE (Software)
3. Sennheiser MKH 416 T ( 12v powered)
4. PSC 48PH/12T Converter to convert Phantom power 48V to 12V.
5. MicPort Pro Samples to 96khz, Analog to Digital Converter
6. Blue “Berry” Mic Cable
7. USB Cable
8. iLok Key

I could tote around my mBox2, but that would not be as compact, keep in mind that the Bag is like a mini computer case, not even a full sized case.

Total hardware cost $ 995.00

I have included today’s Audition to give you an example of the Quality of sound from this audition MP3 file sampled at 44.1Khz.

CLICK TO PLAY THE AUDITION (Click)
I Like the second take the best…
It’s just VO with no music or video, it’s a :30sec TV Spot.

UPDATE: 6:30PM (Feedback)
Not likely
(Learn more about the Voice Seeker’s Feedback System)
Based on Voice Seeker’s feedback you were ranked 7th out of 23
auditions that received feedback.
(There were 16 talent(s) who received the same feedback as you)

WOW…this is about the worst feedback score I ever have received on www.voice123.com
But this is the business, and this means that I am one Audition closer to a “Yes” for my next job.

Enjoy your night!

  3. Hi, Bill,

Could you please post where you got the Sennheiser and the cost, if you don’t mind sharing?

    Thanks,

    Jeff

    • I purchased the 416 on eBay, it was brand new in a box with a 1 year warranty. I think the reason was the fact that it’s a “T” that requires a 12v rather than a 48v phantom power supply, but that is a simple patch with a $ 34.00 48v-12T converter. You will find that the “T” version has less noise than the other (48PU) due to the fact that it does no have 48 volts toss at it.

I was going to add the price in the post, because the entire package is less than the street price for the Microphone.

      Thank you for your question.

      • Thanks, Bill. I figured you might have gotten it on ebay. I’ve checked there from time to time, but as you said the street price of the P48 is the cost of your whole kit. I’ll have to keep an eye out for the T model.

        Jeff

  5. Please help. I have a Senn 416T and want to get a 3′ cable for a remote set up. Cant find one that fits it. Tried the obvious places. Any ideas?

    • I made my own cables by picking up the cable and wire and connectors from the Guitar Center here in Las Vegas. The cost was about $ 10.00 dollars, the following is the item from Guitar Center -
American DJ 3-Pin Male – Female XLR Connectors Item # 104849583 PRICE $6.99
3 ft. of the VTG Low Noice Audio Cable $ 2.40 (+-) a few cents.

      Hope this helps.
